Stabbing outside Chase Bank in Berkeley hospitalizes man

BERKELEY — A stabbing in front of a bank early Thursday hospitalized a man, and investigators were seeking help to find the suspect.

Officers were called to the Chase Bank at 2390 Shattuck Ave. about 3:35 a.m. and found the man with numerous stab wounds, according to a police statement from spokesperson Officer Jessica Perry.

Perry in a text said he was stabbed outside the building and went inside the bank to call 911. The emergency call came within 30 minutes of the stabbing, she said.

The man, who police said was in his 50’s, went by ambulance to Highland Hospital in Oakland and was listed in stable condition, according to authorities. Police found him inside the ATM area of the bank, which is at the bottom of an apartment complex.

Police said they have not identified a suspect. They urged anyone with information to call 510-981-5900 or email police at police@berkeleyca.gov.
