Man found dead inside parked car on Oakland highway

A man in his mid-30s was found dead inside a parked car on an Oakland highway Saturday morning, according to California Highway Patrol Officer Adib Zeid.

Per Zeid, an officer first noticed a vehicle stopped in the center median on eastbound Interstate Highway 580 just before 8 a.m. on Saturday. When the officer approached the car, which was parked near the 98th Avenue exit, he saw that the driver of the vehicle was unresponsive. The vehicle also had a flat tire.

The officer was able to open the vehicle and, when he was unable to detect a pulse on the man inside, he called for medical assistance. The Oakland Fire Department soon arrived and declared the man deceased. Two lanes on Highway 580 eastbound were closed for about 45 minutes.

According to Zeid, there was no sign of trauma, exterior damage from a crash, or evidence that the car had been broken into. As of now, Zeid said there were no expectations of foul play.

Investigators are working to determine the cause of death.
