Head-on crash in Sierra foothills: 3 killed and 6 injured, all from the Bay Area
A head-on crash on a Sierra foothills highway killed three people and sent six others to the hospital, the California Highway Patrol said.
The occupants of the two cars were from the Bay Area.
The crash happened around 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 11, on Highway 4 about five miles west of Copperopolis. An eastbound Honda reportedly crossed into the westbound lane and collided with a Lexus, the CHP said.
The three people in the Honda were killed. They were identified by the Calaveras County coroner as Jose Luis Garcia Jr., 25, of San Mateo; Danielle Bologna, 62, of San Francisco; and her daughter, Francesca Bologna, 25, of San Francisco. Garcia was the driver, the CHP said.
The six people in the Lexus, all San Jose residents, were taken to hospitals in Modesto. Three adults had major injuries; one adult and two children, ages 2 and 4, had moderate injuries, the CHP said.
The crash remains under investigation. All the adults were wearing seatbelts and the children were in car seats, the CHP said.
